Project Critique Session
This in-depth classroom session is a unique offering designed for photographers with a serious body of work ready to take to the next level. Open to enthusiasts, photo students, and professionals, these classes are oriented to uncover the seed of your project, to talk about your approach and point of view, edit and sequence the work, and identify a strategy for moving it forward. Each session will be led by professional photographer Maggie Steber and Deputy Picture Editor at Fortune magazine Scott Thode, who will offer critical insight, encouragement, and lead group reviews to help you walk away energized and confident about the future of your project.
Maggie Steber
Maggie Steber has worked as a documentary photographer in over 55 countries. She received Alicia Patterson Foundation and Ernst Haas grants for her longtime work in Haiti, which was published in the book “Dancing on Fire” (Aperture). She is a Leica Medal of Excellence recipient, and has won World Press, POY, Overseas Press Club awards, among others. From 1999 until 2002 Maggie served as Assistant Managing Editor of Photography at The Miami Herald. She currently consultants on newspaper redesigns and shoots for National Geographic Magazine, Life, Newsweek, The New York Times Magazine, Smithsonian and other publications. Her photographs are published in numerous anthologies and have been widely exhibited.
Scott Thode
Scott Thode is an award winning photo editor and photographer. He is the former Deputy Picture Editor at Fortune Magazine where numerous stories he worked on have won awards from The National Press Photographers Association’s “Pictures Of The Year” competition in American Photography. He was also a Lucie Award nominee for Picture Editor of the Year. As a photographer his photographs appeared in The New York Times Magazine, LIFE Magazine, The Independent, GEO and many other North American and European publications. A recipient of numerous photography awards, his work has been exhibited at “Visa Pour L’Image”, in Perpignon, France, “The Bienalle Internazionale di Foyografia”, in Turin, Italy, and “The Colonnade Gallery”, in Washington, D.C. He has also participated in a variety of group exhibits in the United States and Europe. Scott has taught at The International Center for Photography, The American Photography Mentor Series and has participated in many photo panels over the years.
